What is Yoga?
Yoga means “to yolk” or “to join” and like anything else of potency, can be interpreted many ways. To me, Yoga means “To join my mind, body, spirit in a practice which joins me with Universal consciousness and Divine connection.” The 8 limbed tree of Yoga includes the practice of moving the body into different poses (Asanas) simply to prepare the body, mind and spirit to settle into Meditation (Dhyana, the 7th limb) which leads to Enlightenment (Samadhi, the 8th limb.) So “yoga” encompasses moving the body in and out of postures, but the word Yoga does not mean asanas exclusively.
In my life’s practice of Therapeutic Yoga, I meditate twice daily. This medicine brings me peace of mind and body and helps me see clearly that we inter-are with each other and with nature. This perspective allows me to move through the challenges and joys of life with curiosity, gratitude and acceptance.
